1865
Mustered Out at Chattanooga
In early 1865, as the war drew toward its final months, the regiment remained in service in the Department of the Cumberland. Having completed its term of enlistment, it was mustered out at Chattanooga. The veterans and recruits were then transferred to the 4th Kentucky Infantry, bringing the service of the regiment to a close. Though its active role as a unit had ended, the record it left behind—through campaigns, hardships, and steady duty—remained a lasting part of the war’s history.
Research Note: This summary reflects the final service and discharge of the regiment as recorded in the Adjutant General’s Report of Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, noting its muster out at Chattanooga in 1865 and the transfer of remaining men to the 4th Kentucky Infantry.
