1864
During the year 1864, the regiment remained largely in and around Chattanooga following the campaigns of the previous winter. Though it took part in the earlier movements associated with the Atlanta Campaign, it was chiefly assigned to guard duty in the region, holding positions and maintaining security across the surrounding area. Through the late summer and into the fall months—September, October, and November—the men continued in this role as part of the District of the Etowah under the command of General Steedman. While this period lacked the large-scale engagements of earlier campaigns, it required steady discipline and endurance, as the regiment maintained its post and supported ongoing Union operations in the field.
Research Note: This summary reflects the regiment’s service during 1864 as described in the Adjutant General’s Report of Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, noting its participation in early movements of the Atlanta Campaign and its extended assignment to guard duty in and around Chattanooga as part of the District of the Etowah under Gen. Steedman.
