Rutha (Bishop) Rogers – Death Records

In the winter of 1918, Rutha became ill during the devastating influenza pandemic. Death records suggest she may have lost a child during that time, and her own body—already weakened—was unable to recover. Her official cause of death is listed as both influenza and childbirth.

Just days before, Hezekiah and Rutha’s young daughter Malia Rodie passed away at not quite two years old, also from influenza. While we may never know the name or story of the final child Rutha carried, we remember them both with tenderness and sorrow. Rutha was only 34 years old.
