1837- 1912
When the country was divided in war, John Preston Hatton stepped forward as a Union soldier. His service reflects the experience of many Kentucky men—marked by endurance, illness, and a return home to rebuild.
These records provide a glimpse into John’s time in service and the physical toll of war.
John served in two Union regiments. The 8th Kentucky Infantry was active early in the war, operating in Kentucky and Tennessee. The 47th Kentucky Infantry, organized later, performed duty primarily within Kentucky.
